Creating a Ballerina Themed Birthday Party

As I sit here and write this post, I can't help but get emotional. My sweet baby girl turned 1 a couple of weeks ago, and I am still in denial that it happened.  Time just flew by so fast! It felt like yesterday that I was in the hospital holding my little baby girl in my arms. How did a year creep up so fast?!

When it came time to start planning her first birthday, I wanted to make sure it was 2 things- Pink and Girly! After many hours on pinterest, I decided on a Ballerina Theme! I chose Pink with Gold accents for the colours, and I have to say it turned out so beautiful. Exactly what I envisioned.

For the décor, I purchased light pink table clothes for all of the tables. For a little extra detail, I bought 2 gold table clothes and cut them into strips, and laid them in the centre of all the tables. To add some height, I ordered mylar balloons from the dollar store. I had them group 2 pink hearts and 1 gold star balloon together with weights for each table. This was the first time using mylar balloons and not latex and I have to say they look way nicer!!
(TIP: When ordering balloons for the tables, make sure you let the store know they're for the tables - and not the floor, so they can make them table height and not floor height.)

To make each place setting extra pretty, I placed a white doylie under each pink plate. This also made the plate stand out a bit more against the pink table cloth. I then rolled the cutlery using gold napkins and tied each one with pink curling ribbon. For the finishing touches, in the centre of each table, I made cute pink pompoms and bought fresh pink roses and placed them in little vases.

For the food I ordered pasta, pizza, salad and buns from an Italian Bakery. I also had dips, chips, fruit and veggies for snacks as guests arrived.

The dessert table was probably the biggest hit at the party. I used the top part of a hutch that I have which has sentimental value, and used it as the backdrop for the dessert table. On the shelves, I added gold picture frames with pictures of my daughter from her 6 month photo shoot, ballerina slippers, and more pink pom poms and decor that I made. I also bought tall gold candelabras from Homesense. I used these to add more height at the back of the table, and placed more pink pom poms on the top of them.

The food on the table consisted of cotton candy from SugarPop Rentals, a 2 tier ballerina cake from We Bake Cakes, Pink French Macaroons from Cupcake Goodness, and ballerina slipper cookies from Pinspired Creations. I also ordered caramel and cotton candy popcorn from Kernels Popcorn that I filled in pink popcorn boxes that I purchased from Party City. To add a personal touch, I made ballerina tutu outfits in pink and gold and placed them on both the popcorn boxes and cotton candy tubs. I also had a few containers filled with pink and gold candy as well.

Using the bottom part of the white hutch, I made a beverage station. Creating the same look as the tables, I added a light pink table runner and a piece of  the gold table cloth that I cut into strips. I bought a beautiful crystal beverage dispenser from Bed Bath & Beyond and filled it with pink lemonade. On one side of it I had pink cups and straws, and on the other I had water bottles with mini tutus that I made to coordinate with the theme.

For the loot bags, I got plain white bags from the dollar store and decorated them myself. I made more mini ballerina tutu outfits and placed them on the front of each bag. Then I went to Fabricland, and got some pretty pink ribbon and added it to the top of each bag. I bought it cause it works perfectly with the theme- it had a crisscross effect in the centre of it which looked like the ribbon on a pair of ballerina shoes. So cute! I also added pink and gold tissue paper, and curling ribbon to each bag.

For entertainment, I hired a magician name Scott from The Magic of Scott Dietrich for the kids. He was a huge success and not just with the kids, but the adults as well. Stay tuned for a review on him on the blog soon!

Here are some shots of my sweet baby girl eating her cake. She was so cute! She just couldn't wait to get her hands in the cake. I love her so much!

We had so much fun celebrating her birthday with all our family and friends. It was a great day filled with many memories that I will cherish forever.

SugarPop Rentals + Giveaway!

For those of you that know me well, you know I love to throw a good birthday party for my kids. Yes I admit,  I kind of go a bit overboard as my husband would say, but I don't care! I love doing it and it's a great memory for my kids.

When I started planning my son's 2nd Birthday Party a couple of years ago, I wanted to bring in a special treat for our guests. One night while searching for something online, I came across SugarPop Rentals. I saw that you can rent a popcorn and old fashion carnival cotton candy machine. I absolutely loved the idea and thought it would be great for the party and booked them the very next day!

The owner Michelle (she is in the picture below) was amazing! She came early to set up and make sure everything was good to go before my guests arrived. She was very friendly, polite and professional. Both the popcorn and cotton candy were so fresh since it was made right before your eyes. It was a big hit! Not only did all the kids love it, but the parents were up for seconds too!

They are currently offering a 2 for 1 promotion. Rent one machine (cotton candy, popcorn, sno-kones), receive a second machine FREE. This includes full service which means they will go to the event location, provide all products, set up, serve the guests for up to 3 hours with each machine serving up to 150 servings, clean up and return the equipment. All for only $275 plus HST. Travel and gas expense may apply depending on location. It's a great deal!

Fast forward 2 years later, and I decided to book them again, but this time for my daughters 1st Birthday party. This time, instead of renting the cotton candy machine I decided to go with the pre-packaged route. They came in air sealed tubs which kept the cotton candy so fresh. They also do custom labels which would be perfect for an event! They even give a special rate for schools for fund raising too!

Minimum order is 40 tubs at a cost of only $1.30 per tub. You can choose from a variety of flavors such as Raspberry, pink-cherry, Bubble Gum, Strawberry and Melon.

You can also get tubs of popcorn as well. Cost ranges from $1.75- $1.95 depending on the flavor.
