Family Night at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament!

Finding time to spend together as a family these days is sometimes very difficult, even on weekends. During the week, by the time by husband gets home the kids are almost ready for bed. He even works on Saturday which leaves only Sunday's together. Making time for family is very important, so when I received tickets to Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament I couldn't have been more excited. I knew it was going to be a great night of quality time together!

My husband and I have been to the show in the past, but this was a first time for my son and niece. They both couldn't have been more excited to go and see the show. The whole ride there we heard "Are we there yet?" "Are we almost there?" It was a shame my daughter wasn't feeling well and missed it cause she would of loved seeing all the horses.

The doors opened 75 minutes before the show, so we made sure to get there early. We wanted to tour around the castle with the kids before the show started. Once we entered the castle we were greeted as "Lords" and "Ladies." It was really funny because both kids quickly corrected them saying their actual names, lol. Once we received our tickets, we headed over to a table to pick up our crowns, which were blue. The colour of the crown indicated what knight we were going to be cheering for, and then we got a group photo taken.

Once we got inside, my husband and I purchased something to drink from the bar, and we looked around at all the gifts the vendors had. Of course, the kids wanted a light up sword, so we got them one each and they pretended they were knights while waiting for the show to start! We also watched all the children (aka. Lords and Ladies) who were celebrating a birthday get "Knighted"

Once the show started the kids couldn't keep their eyes off the show.  We received the King's Royalty Package which gave us front row seating, and it was great because the kids could see perfectly. They were so excited to cheer for the blue knight and wave around their swords and flags. Included in the package, we also received our entrance group photo which was framed, a "Behind the Scenes" DVD, commemorative program, and knights cheering flag.

During the course of the show we were served our meals. We started with Tomato Soup and a slice of garlic bread. Then they came out with 1/2 a chicken...yes you read that right..1/2! It was huge! We also received 1/2 of a roasted potato and a 1/2 of piece of corn. I couldn't believe how much food we got! Oh and for dessert we got a large butter tart! Yum!

I have to say the 2 favourite parts for my son was the falcon that they had flying around, and the sword fighting. For my niece, well she was lucky enough to have our knight give her a flower, so that 100% made her night. She was so excited and felt so special.

It's been 3 days since we saw the show, and I haven't yet figured out how to get my son to stop sleeping with his sword! lol

What a great show and it was so nice to spend some family time together.

Magic with Scott Dietrich

If you read my blog, you will remember a few weeks ago I wrote about "Creating a Ballerina Theme Birthday" for my daughter's first birthday party. Well, I wanted to add some sort of entertainment for the kids since I wasn't planning on having any games. I thought it would be fun to have a magician, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't just any magician. I wanted to find someone that focused more on children. That's when I found Scott Dietrich!

To be honest, his website is what sold me, and made me want to pick up the phone and call him. It was so bright, and colourful and watching his videos made me realize he was great with kids. I also read on his website he was voted by the Readers of City Parent Magazine, the GTA’s “Best Birthday Party Entertainer” for three consecutive years (2012, 2013, 2014)!

His performance is 60 minutes in length, which includes tricks with cards, ropes, rubber sharks and much more. After the show he teaches all the kids how to perform a magic trick, and gives them a souvenir magic pamphlet to learn even more. What I loved is that he included all the kids in helping out with his tricks, and not just the birthday girl. He made it fun for everyone!

When he arrived, I have to admit I was pretty nervous that maybe the kids were too young for a magic show. I wasn't sure if they were going to understand his tricks or even have the patience to sit there to watch his performance. As you can see from these photos, I really didn't have anything to worry about. What I loved is that he geared the show to their age group. The kids absolutely loved him!

For his final trick, the birthday child becomes the starring role and helps produce a live BUNNY! After that, he gives all the kids a chance to come up to see the bunny and pet him. The kids loved that! They couldn't stand up and get in line fast enough.

To conclude the show, he creates a balloon animal of their choice for each child, and a special balloon crown for the birthday boy or girl!

Also as a special bonus, the birthday child receives an autographed copy of his new inspirational children's book, "I Can & I Did!" which I blogged about HERE because it's such a great book and my son absolutely loves it!

Here is the birthday girl with her balloon crown!

I 100% recommend Scott Dietrich if you're looking for some amazing entertainment for your child's next birthday party. He is awesome and you will not be disappointed!

If you are interested in booking Scott for your next child's birthday party, you can find all the information on his website HERE

A hot summer night calls for a visit to Hollywood Cone!

We're all huge ice cream fans in our house. Whether it be hard or soft ice cream, we love it all!

At an event last year, we came across a very unique ice cream truck called Hollywood Cone.  We almost walked right past it because it didn't look like the typical ice cream truck you see around. Well thank goodness we stopped because the ice cream and shakes they serve are like no other.

Just recently, Hollywood Cone opened it's first location in downtown Oshawa and I was so excited to check it out!

As you walk up to the front of the store and step inside, you feel like you've just walked into a movie theatre. They have theme music to TV shows and movies, theatre seats at the tables, and lights around the menus like you would see on a poster for a movie that was playing at the theatre.

They have so much to choose from on the menu, I am telling you it's going to be so hard to decide. For the ice cream, you have the choice between 3 sizes (Small, Medium or Large) either in a cup or cone. Then you can choose which flavour. That's the easy part. It's the toppings that will throw you for a loop. For the shakes, they only come in 1 size but you choose from a huge list of flavours.

I got the strawberry shortcake which is one of their best sellers. My son got the kinder surprise and my husband got the blueberry pie shake! They were all amazing! The ice cream was so creamy and soft. They even gave my son the toy that you get inside the kinder egg.

Another cute touch that they had was a small red carpet photo section. So, naturally we jumped on that and took some fun pictures, lol!

Hollywood Cone's new location is located at 1 Simcoe Street North in Oshawa. If you live in the area you've got to check it out!

You can also hire them for your next event or party- check out their website HERE to contact them for more details!
